On September 26, 2019 the Duke and the Duchess of Cambridge arrive in Birkenhead to name a new polar research ship with the name of RRS Sir David Attenborough during a ceremony in which Kate pressed a button to release a bottle of champagne that broke on one the ship's side. The Duchess of Cambridge, who is the ship's sponsor gave a speech during the ceremony and then the royal couple toured the ship meeting the engineeres, scientists, the crew members and the captain of the ship. This ship will be used for research purposes to study the marine environment and the climate change.
